Project 1
Tissue Culture Banana Production
Production of disease-free, high-yield banana planting materials.
This project aims to establish a modern banana tissue culture facility to produce genetically uniform, disease-free, and high-yield planting materials using advanced plant biotechnology. The process begins with the selection of healthy elite mother plants possessing desirable traits such as high productivity, disease resistance, and superior fruit quality. Small meristematic tissues are cultured under sterile laboratory conditions, where they are multiplied rapidly using specialized nutrient media and plant growth regulators. The regenerated plantlets are rooted, acclimatized in greenhouse conditions, and then transferred to nurseries before distribution to farmers. The project will integrate quality control, molecular diagnostics, and pathogen screening to ensure that all planting materials are free from major banana diseases. In addition, farmers will receive technical guidance on plantation establishment, crop management, irrigation, fertilization, and disease prevention to maximize field performance.
